Climate and Weather Information

Here are some of the websites that I have found for cool and important information on weather and climate in and around the Marsh Creek Watershed:

U.S. Climate Data - Atlanta, Georgia :

  • This a great all around view of the average temperatures, precipitation, and hours of sunshine by month.
  • This website can provide more indepth information about the climate of Georgia, when the best and worst times are to visit (weather wise) and different weather and climate patterns throughout the year. I will agree with the site that July and August are the worst time to visit as the temperatures are blistering hot and the humidity only increases the conditions. Autumn is beautiful, especially in the northern Georgia mountains with the leaves changing on the winding roads.
  • The Georgia Forestry Commission has compiled data dating back to 1998 of temperature, wind speed, and precipitation on a daily basis.
  • The Georgia State Environmental Protection Division Office of the State Climatologist website provides direct contact with the state climatologists as well as monthly climate summaries dating back to 2014. Here is the July 2022 Climate Summary:

  • The University of Georgia College of Agricultural and Environmental Services has created a real-time weather and climate map using weather stations around the state. These stations can provide temperature, relative humidity, dew point temperature, atmospheric pressure, wind direction and speed, wind gusts, heat index, and more. Here is the closest weather station to the Marsh Creek Watershed: Cherokee Town and Country Club
  • The National Weather Service is an important governmental organization that monitors the weather, climate, and is the first line of defense for severe weather.
